08

Annual policy review

One appointment a year across every policy you hold with us: what changed in your life, what changed in the market, what should move.

A handshake across the desk

Four generations on your side of the table.

Carriers pay us the same either way — so the only thing left to compete on is finding you the right policy and standing next to you when something goes wrong. That's been the whole business model since 1987.

  • Independent — no carrier quotas, ever
  • One broker for the whole household
  • Annual re-shop of every policy at renewal
03When something goes wrongCall us, not the carrier

How a claim runs with us.

  1. One call — to us

Day or night, you call our claims line, not a carrier queue. We take the details once.

  2. We file and push

We file on your behalf, chase the adjuster, and escalate when the carrier drags its feet.

  3. We argue the number

If the offer comes in low, we contest it with documentation. Advocacy is built into every policy we write.

What clients say

The proof is at claim time.

5 out of 5 stars
When the fire happened, they had the claim filed and a contractor on-site by the next morning. That week is why you use a broker.

Plain language

The words on your policy, translated

Almost nobody is under-insured on purpose. They are under-insured because nobody sat down and explained these eight words.

Coinsurance
A clause that penalises you at claim time if you insured a property for less than a set percentage of its value. Under-insure the building to save premium and the insurer reduces the payout proportionally — even on a small claim.
Deductible
What you pay before the insurer pays anything. Raising it lowers your premium and raises your exposure on a bad day, so the right number is whatever you could genuinely write a cheque for tomorrow without it hurting.
Endorsement (or rider)
An add-on that changes what a policy covers — scheduling a ring, adding a home office, covering a trailer. Most gaps we find are things that needed an endorsement nobody offered.
Exclusion
What the policy specifically will not pay for. Flood and earth movement are excluded from nearly every standard home policy, which surprises people at precisely the worst moment.
Liability limit
The most a policy will pay when you are the one who caused the harm. Most standard policies default to a limit set decades ago, and most people have never looked at theirs.
Replacement cost vs actual cash value
Replacement cost pays what it takes to buy the thing again today. Actual cash value pays what your fifteen-year-old roof was worth the day before the storm — which is usually a fraction. This single distinction causes more claim disappointment than everything else combined.
Subrogation
When your insurer pays your claim and then goes after whoever actually caused it. It matters to you because a successful subrogation usually gets your deductible back.
Umbrella policy
Extra liability cover that sits above your auto and home limits and only pays once those are exhausted. It is unglamorous, it is cheap relative to what it covers, and it is what stands between one bad accident and your savings.
04Broker vs direct

Common questions

Why use a broker vs going direct?+

Carriers price the same risk wildly differently. We pull quotes from 8–12 carriers per applicant; the savings and better fit easily beat a single direct quote.

Are quotes free?+

Always. We're paid by the carrier on bound policies — never by you.

What happens at claim time?+

Call us, not the carrier. We file on your behalf, escalate where needed, and contest lowball offers. Built into every policy.

Switching is a hassle, right?+

We handle the paperwork. A typical switch takes 30 minutes of your time, and we time the cutover so there's no coverage gap.

Do you re-shop at renewal?+

Yes — every policy gets re-checked against the market at renewal. If a better fit exists, you hear it from us first.

Which carriers do you represent?+

Twenty-plus regional and national carriers. Independence means we drop carriers that treat claimants badly — and we have.

Will my premium go up if I ask a question?+

No. Asking whether something would be covered is not a claim and is not reported anywhere. Half the point of having a broker is a place to ask before you decide.

Will filing a claim raise my rates?+

Sometimes, and we will tell you honestly before you file whether a small claim is worth the likely increase. A broker who never talks you out of a claim is not on your side of the table.

What do you actually earn on my policy?+

A commission from the carrier, typically a percentage of the premium, and broadly similar across the carriers we place with. Ask us for the number on any specific policy and you will get it.

I think I am over-insured. Would you say so?+

Yes, and we do it every renewal — dropping cover you have outgrown is part of the annual review. It reduces our commission, which is exactly why it is worth having in writing.
